He is a compassionate, professional and highly experienced specialist doctor, working daily to relieve pain and get his patients back to doing the things they love to do with their lives and loved ones.

Pain Specialists Australia (formerly Victoria Pain Specialists) was founded with the aim of bringing medical excellence and effective pain relief to as many people as possible, with thousands of patients already being treated by this group.

Dr Christelis is trained in all aspects of pain medicine including interventional pain medicine techniques. His expertise covers most types of chronic pain like spinal pain and neuropathic pain, which is proving difficult to treat by other specialists. He is also specialised in advanced pain interventional techniques like nerve and joint blocks, epidural injections, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation and other advanced neuromodulation techniques. He has particular expertise in managing lumbar pain and sciatica, neck, shoulder and arm pain, facial pains/headaches and pelvic pain.

He undertook his medical training in his home South Africa, before moving to the United Kingdom, where he completed his specialist training in pain medicine and anaesthesia at London’s prestigious Imperial School of Anaesthesia.

He worked as a pain consultant for 2 years in the pain management unit at The Chelsea & Westminster Hospital in London before moving to Melbourne in 2009 to take up appointments as Consultant in Pain Medicine, Head of Pain Service, and Anaesthetist at The Alfred Hospital. He is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at Monash University, and a Visiting Pain Specialist in a number of Melbourne hospitals.

He has published much pain-relevant research, and is a reviewer for the British Journal of Anaesthesia (BJA). His research extends to an Alfred-Monash based collaboration focused on translational pain, and he teaches extensively in pain medicine both to his patients and to training pain doctors.

Dr Christelis practices 100% in the field of pain medicine.

Outside work, Dr Christelis is dedicated to exercise, and is a proud husband, father, son, brother, and friend.

My desire is to help people to live healthy and inspired lives while developing a service that benefits our greater community.

Trust us, trust in what we believe in, and believe in yourself again.
— Dr Nick Christelis

"Developing a pain clinic that works effectively and efficiently in providing pain sufferers with effective pain relief - that is success to me. The clinic must encompass a truly caring team that focuses on holistic complete multidisciplinary medical care but also uses advanced and cutting-edge pain-reduction techniques and technology where appropriate."
